Student Spotlight
Sixth grader Sophie Schnell has been a part of the GHS community since preschool. She says she appreciates that our teachers are “nice and they help you.”
“In fifth grade, I was having trouble doing fractions and Ms. Christina helped me,” says Sophie.
Sixth grade advisor Mr. Corey says Sophie stands out as a positive presence in her class.
“She is consistently eager to contribute in class and is friendly, organized, and dependable,” he says. “I’ve noticed her taking the time to help classmates with things like opening their lockers and getting settled, which shows she is thoughtful and supportive of her peers. She has made a really positive impression so far.”
Sophie says she is enjoying her time at the Upper Campus so far. She likes having different teachers throughout the day and appreciates having a locker. Sophie likes all of her subjects and says math with Ms. Christina is a favorite.
“I like learning new things,” she says.
Sophie enjoys her classmates and the relationships they’ve formed with one another.
“They’re all nice and they make you feel welcome,” she says. “If you mess up when you’re playing a game, they don’t get mad at you and say it’s okay.”
Sophie is a member of our middle school volleyball team, which she says is a very supportive group.
“I like that everybody is trying to cheer you on, and if you need help with something, they help you,” she says.
Outside of school, she participates in the tumbling class at the St. John School of the Arts. In her free time, Sophie enjoys playing with her two dogs.

NHS INDUCTION OCTOBER 1
Our National Honor Society induction is set for Thursday morning, October 1, at 8:30 a.m. at the Upper Campus. This organization is open to students in grades 10 through 12 who have demonstrated excellence in the four pillars of the organization: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Candidates must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.4, and have met or exceeded the requirement of contributing 25 hours of community service for each year of high school.

LUNCH AND LEARN WITH LOW KEY
We'd like to thank Low Key Watersports for coming to speak with our Upper Campus students this week about the diving and certification opportunities available to them through the school's partnership with Low Key. Interest was strong with more than 20 students attending. Our Lunch and Learn series regularly connects Upper Campus students with community members who volunteer to share the story of their professional background in an effort to expose our students to career pathways both here and in the larger world. Community Corner: News You Can Use
TRUNK OR TREAT OCTOBER 30
Trunk or Treat will take place at the Cruz Bay gravel lot on October 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult and should bring their own treat bag. To add your car to the lineup, contact dana.neil@yahoo.com.
FALL FESTIVAL OCTOBER 31
The Family Readiness Group will present a fall Festival on October 31 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Leonard B. Francis Armory on St. Thomas. There will be candy stations, treats, games, music, and more. There is a $5 entry fee.
