On Tuesday, nearly 200 students returned to Gifft Hill School’s classrooms.

"The start of a new school year is always filled with excitement and promise," Head of School Liz Kinsella said in a news release. “At Gifft Hill School, we are dedicated to nurturing the whole child, encouraging curiosity, compassion, and resilience. We look forward to seeing our students grow as learners and as leaders."

The toddler through 12th grade school is now in its third year as a cell phone-free school, and has “set an example that others in the territory have since embraced, helping create more focused and connected learning environments for students,” according to the release.

Classrooms have been refreshed with new flexible furniture, including desks that adjust from sitting to standing, movable group tables, and wobble stools, giving students more choice in how they learn and helping them stay engaged and focused, the release said.

Other highlights of the upcoming year include the continuation of science programs in environmental science and sustainability, expanded arts and athletics offerings, and capstone experiences for seniors.
