COLLEGE COUNSELING
The post-high school planning process can be a challenging one to navigate. We are here to assist you with all aspects of the process from the standardized testing process to applications to scholarship searches. We believe strongly in helping every student find not the “best” school, but the “best match”.
Timeline and services –
Juniors: The official process begins in January of the students’ Junior year with Junior Parent-Student night. Juniors and their families will then be invited to an individual planning meeting with the counselor during January and February to further discuss the process and begin initial planning. Juniors are invited throughout the year to visit with representatives from a variety of schools that visit GHS and to attend local college fairs, as they are available.
JUNIOR STUDENT-PARENT NIGHT is currently scheduled for January 18, 2012 at GHS Upper Campus at 6 pm. All Juniors and their parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to attend.
Seniors: The Seniors participate in a weekly college workshop with the counselor which covers all aspects of the application process. Seniors are assisted in a group setting and individually with everything from registering for standardized assessments, developing a list of school to which to apply, essays, securing teacher recommendations, communicating with college officials, researching scholarship opportunities, and more. The Seniors and/or their families meet with the counselor on an individual basis as often as is needed. Seniors are invited throughout the year to visit with representatives from a variety of schools that visit GHS and to attend local college fairs, as they are available.

It is recommended that Seniors plan to take the October or November SAT and the December ACT.
